The Flyer - Volume 40 Issue 6

2018

This project demonstrates my layout design work with The Flyer. As Lead Layout editor, I took charge in laying out the news and tempo sections which consisted of eight pages. Page assembly included usage of Adobe InDesign with image editing completed using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. When presented with black and white print pages, photos often underwent editing by adjusting levels, contrast, and brightness to ensure images were legible on black and white pages. On layout nights — nights where all Flyer staff gather to layout the upcoming print issue and copyedit pages — I wrapped up lay out and reviewed edits with copy and section editors. As Lead Layout Editor, I guided my fellow layout editors if they ran into design issues, examined the tiny details in printed copy for small design mishaps, and uploaded and sent PDF copies of the respective sections to the printing press. Following the rollout of a new issue, I compiled all pages and sections into a single, reduced-sized PDF for print advisor and mentor, Lisa O'Toole, using Adobe Acrobat.
