The Flyer - Volume 40 Issue 6 

This project demonstrates my layout design work with The Flyer. As Lead Layout editor, I took charge in laying out the news and tempo sections which consisted of eight pages. Page assembly included usage of Adobe InDesign with image editing completed using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. As Lead Layout Editor, I guided my fellow layout editors if they ran into design issues, examined the tiny details in printed copy for small design mishaps, and uploaded and sent PDF copies of the respective sections to the printing press.

The Flyer - Career Expo approaching: how to develop business connections

While employed as Layout Editor for The Flyer, a student newspaper at Lewis University, I also wrote articles for the print issues. Contained in the February 27 print issue of the The Flyer is my article "Career Expo approaching: how to develop business connections". To create this article, I held an interview with Executive Director of Career Services, Mary Myers, and incorporated her insight though quotations and body copy. I gained experience engaging with and interviewing sources, transcribing audio files, crafting an informational news article, writing captions and headlines, and adhering to AP Style guidelines.

The Flyer - DeVos advances to full US Senate for confirmation 

 While employed as Layout Editor for The Flyer, a student newspaper at Lewis University, I also wrote articles for the print issues. Contained in the February 6 print issue of the The Flyer is my article "DeVos advances to full US Senate for confirmation". To create this article, I followed news and listened to hearings regarding on Betsy DeVos' confirmation. Through this project, I gained experience writing articles with political topics, finding and properly crediting photos, crafting an informational news article, writing captions and headlines, and adhering to AP Style guidelines particularly in mentioning government officials.

The Flyer - Major Nickelodeon animator and creator leaves network

 While employed as Layout Editor for The Flyer, a student newspaper at Lewis University, I also wrote articles for the print issues. Contained in the February 26 print issue of the The Flyer is my article "Major Nickelodeon animator and creator leaves network". To create this article, I followed media trends, listened to videos where Hartman explained his departure, and researched Hartman's  career and upcoming projects. Through this project, I gained experience writing articles on entertainment, finding and properly crediting photos, performing research to enhance my articles, writing captions and headlines, and adhering to AP Style guidelines.

June Media Internship - Asian Cajun Recipes That'll Set Your Tastebuds on Fire

During my summer internship with June Media, I crafted recipe listicles for the Fit & Fab Living June Media platform. Following listicle assignment and photo procurement from supervisor, Janay Moore, I conducted research in order to build recipes for readers that aligned with the photos and topics provided. This portfolio highlights two recipes (Asian Cajun Crawfish Boil with Buttery Garlic Sauce and Crawfish-Stuffed Steamed Buns) from my "Asian Cajun Recipes That'll Set Your Tastebuds on Fire" listicle for Fit & Fab Living. In addition to the recipe listicles, I also wrote social media posts for the Savvy Fork Twitter and Facebook pages and uploaded recipes onto the Savvy Fork website.

June Media Internship - Taco Tuesday Recipes You'll Want All Week

During my summer internship with June Media, I crafted recipe listicles for the Fit & Fab Living June Media platform. Following listicle assignment and photo procurement from supervisor, Janay Moore, I conducted research in order to build recipes for readers that aligned with the photos and topics provided. This portfolio highlights two recipes (Mouth-Watering Taco Soup and Beefy Taco Salad with Avocado) from my "Taco Tuesday Recipes You'll Want All Week" listicle for Fit & Fab Living. In addition to the recipe listicles, I also wrote social media posts for the Savvy Fork Twitter and Facebook pages and uploaded recipes onto the Savvy Fork website.

Nativity House - Promotional Poster and Grant Letter

Writing Digital Media, a Lewis University service-learning course, presented me with the lovely opportunity to partner with the non for profit organization Nativity House in Lockport, IL. Alongside my peers, we developed promotional material for the organization, created a graphic template for Nativity House's grant letter proposals, and revised the grant letter copy.  Through this partnership I gained critical collaborative skills, experience communicating with and creating for clients, grant writing insight, and methodical knowledge of visual organization.

Jet Fuel Review - Issue 16

During the fall 2018 semester at Lewis University, I partook in the collaborative creation of Jet Fuel Review's 16th issue as Art & Design, Fiction, Nonfiction, and Layout Editor. The following project displays detailed work in layout design of the 16th issue's eBook as well as my work in curating artwork for the journal's art section. Through professionally communicative efforts and persistence, I attained C.Finley, Gavin Smart, and Fabrizio Arrieta's work for the 16th issue. Additionally, Jet Fuel Review's 16th issue received a Pinnacle Award from the College Media Association. See more at jetfuelreview.com.

Writing Center Resource - The Element of Design

While employed at Lewis University's Writing Center, I crafted an instructional document regarding the elements of design to assist graphic design novices for the Writing Center's Online Writing Lab (OWL). The document covers topics such as typography, space, scale, line, direction etc. and includes in depth visual examples. Currently, OWL lists The Elements of Design document as a "Writing Design" resource.

Nonwestern Literature - Self-Formation in Caste and Communism

The essay “Self-Formation in Caste and Communism” is a creation born out of my Nonwestern Literature course at Lewis University. The paper explores how the fiction works The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga and The Bridegroom by Ha Jin convey the contributions (both negative and positive) of societal structures to citizen’s self-formation using elements such as symbolism, language use, and character development. In 2018, I was honored with the opportunity to share my essay during the 2018 Celebration of Scholarship as well as publish the piece in Voices (2018), a literary journal at Lewis University.

4 Go-To Beer Styles for Spring

While looking for full-time employment following my studies at Lewis University, I worked at Red Arrow Taproom in Naperville, IL as a Hostess. Not only did this experience acquaint me with hospitality, customer service experience, and waitlist management, I also found opportunities for blog writing. After discovering Red Arrow had a blog and after blog writing discussions with the business owner, I crafted a light and wholesome article highlight beer styling to meet the spring season. Extensive research on styles and types of beer went into the creation of the article and I made sure to infuse my writing with a light and welcoming tone to fit Red Arrrow's brand.

KMuse Reviews - Social Media

To supplement the KMuse Reviews blog, I made an Instagram page to assist in bringing readers to the KMuse Reviews website. Throughout the development of the Instagram page, I've added dynamic features such as highlights and stories. Through Canva, the graphic design editor, I built templates for the various types of KMuse Review posts to foster an efficient workflow. Occasionally, I promote posts on Instagram, usually sticking to $10 budgets per promotion and a target audience of 16-25 year olds from around the world. I'm currently working on increasing my following and post engagement and will continue to track developments using Instagram Analytics.

KMuse Reviews - Comeback Review: Monsta X's "Fantasia"

The KMuse Reviews blog features theoretical and analytical reviews of Korean pop music. In the blog article, "Comeback Review: Monsta X's 'Fantasia'" I cover K-pop group Monsta X's release with "Fantasia" and discuss an array of topics — effective elements of the music video, songs within the Fantasia X album, choreography highlights, etc. I drove traction to the article via the blog's Instagram account and Instagram's promotional features. The article currently sits at over 120 reads and the promotional Instagram post contains 3,495 likes. See more at kmusereviews.com.
